Federal Student Aid (FAFSA on the web)
This is absolutely the first stop on your research for anyone looking for financial aid. The FAFSA is a free application from the U.S. Department of Education. The FAFSA application is required in order to qualify a student for many different kinds of Federally subsidized aid. Most student grants and many other loans require the FAFSA. Many colleges use it to determine the amount of financial need even for aid that is not subsidized by the Federal Government.

US College Athletic Scholarships
Hundreds of schools across the US offer financial aid of one sort or another for athletes.. Financial aid for athletes can take many forms, with amounts, requirements, and puposes varying from school to school. Examining and contacting multiple schools is a good way to understand the differences and make sure you end up at a school that is a good fit for you.

FinAid

This is a great website with a wide variety of links and information to many other financial aid sites.

The College Board
The College Board site also has more tools and general information for college-bound students-athletes looking for college information. This is very busy and can be jamed at times by students looking for test-specific information.

SAT test registration and information   and ACT test registration and information 
Most college bound high school students end up taking either the SAT or the ACT exam. This is a requirement for any athletes who must take either the SAT or the ACT test for initial eligibility to qualify for NCAA Divisions I & II. These tests must be taken on "national" testing dates. It is still advisable to take the test early.  The two testing organizations have 13 different national testing dates per year. 

US Department of Education and Student information site

This site has a lot of great information about many different kinds of student aid. It also lists all the Federally subsidized aid that a student-athlete can receive and gives valuable information about their dates, payoff amounts and interest rate. You must register and get an access PIN to access this information.

College Answer
Sallie Mae, one of the major vendors for college loans provides a website called College Answer. The site has some interesting financial aid tools and college search capabilities. There are sections on scholarships, grants, test preparation, college entrance exams, the college application process, deciding on a particular college, and a lot more.

FastWeb
This site is associated with FinAid and Monster.com. It takes your information and then becomes a matchmaker.  Finding colleges and scholarships that will meet your needs and interests. It is a for profit site that makes its money from the services and colleges that get marketed to you based on your criteria.
